Military Friendly Schools to present PVCC with veterans award

Piedmont Virginia Community College will hold a press conference on Tuesday, April 2 at 2 p.m. for Military Friendly Schools’ award presentation to the College. PVCC recently named the number one small community college for veterans in the U.S. by Military Friendly Schools. The event will take place in the Bolick Student Center in the main building, PVCC’s Main Campus, 501 College Drive.

Virginia Secretary of Veterans and Defense Affairs Carlos Hopkins will be the featured speaker during the press event. He serves as the Commonwealth’s top official for coordinating state and federal resources to support Virginia’s veteran community. He was appointed Secretary by former Governor Terence R. McAuliffe on September 1, 2017.

PVCC President Frank Friedman will welcome attendees, and Military Friendly Schools National Program Manager Brian Hucik will speak and present the award to PVCC. Other speakers will include Ben Shaw, Regional Director of Voices of Veterans, and PVCC student Corey Collinson, President of Student Veterans of America.

The 2019-2020 Military Friendly® Schools list will be published in the May issue of G.I. Jobs magazine and can be found online at Methodology, criteria, and weightings were determined by VIQTORY with input from the Military Friendly® Advisory Council of independent leaders in the higher education and military recruitment community. Final ratings were determined by combining the institution’s survey scores with the assessment of the institution’s ability to meet thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, and loan default rates for all students and, specifically for student veterans.
